Music Rant / The necessity of a break.

Okay first off this song.

I absolutely love it.  Upon showing it to a friend, who's been taking a lot of my music advice lately and liking a lot of the bands I've shown him, he said, "Oh this is the song that came on pandora after you left. Everyone thinks it sucks."

Okay. Now. I know I get incredibly sensitive when it comes to music, because I find songs and I just connect to them on a really personal level, and I really should try to stop being so sensitive when it comes to music and people not liking it on the same level that I do, but that crossed a line for me.  That statement crossed a very definitive line.  Where its one thing to say, "oh this isn't quite what I like to listen to." or even simply, "I don't like this song." that's fine. You have a right to your opinion.  Telling me that a song that I currently love sucks? ... That just.  That hurts.  That's not cool.  Never have I once told this person "x genre of music sucks" when they're playing it.  Because I know how much said genre means to them.  And I might not appreciate the fact that they're blasting said genre so it echoes throughout the general 30foot vicinity, but that's okay.  I can leave, or I can ask them kindly to maybe put something on that we both like because said genre is not quite my style.    Different people like different music, and that's cool.  Doesn't mean that if a certain type of song isn't something you like that you should bash it.  You should probably respect the fact that someone put a lot of effort into making the song, because music is an art, or at least respect the other person's opinion on the matter, and move on.  Respectfully. Move. On.

In other news, I am literally swimming in exams.  I feel so far away from the things I care about.  Due to exams I don't really have that much time to spend with my friends here at college.  And whilst here at college, I'm so far away from my friends and family at home.  I feel like I'm losing touch with the things that really matter to me.

I kind of just want to ditch all my material goods and go on a journey somewhere far away.  Join the Sea Gypsies.  Learn what its like to have to work to feed myself each day and ditch the excessiveness of the American consumer mindset.  I just want to take a break from the world for awhile and learn what really matters.

I feel like I had somewhere I wanted to go with this and I lost it along the way...

Just gotta make it to Friday and then I can come home to some lovely people and a much needed break.

Our love was lost, but now we've found it.  Our love was lost, was lost and hope was gone.  I know its hard, but I can still hear it beating.  So flash your heart, I won't mistreat it.  I promise.  I promise. - The Temper Trap
